Catalonia Logistics Cluster took part in the Saló de l’Ocupació, organised by Barcelona Activa, with the roundtable “Which profiles are most in demand in transport and logistics? A sector undergoing transformation and change”. The session focused on exploring career opportunities in the sector and the challenges companies face when recruiting new professionals.
The session was moderated by Abril Plasencia Queralt, Communications Manager at Catalonia Logistics Cluster, and featured Àngel Tarriño Ruiz, Coordinator of the Vocational Education and Training Observatory at Fundació BCN Formació Professional, Lluís Batlle, Corporate Director at Calsina Carré and Cristian Garcia Venegas, Human Resources Manager at EGD Logistics. Drawing on their respective expertise in training, business management and human resources, they shared their perspectives on the sector’s current needs and the professional profiles it requires.
One of the key questions addressed during the session was how to better connect job seekers with the opportunities available in transport and logistics. The sector is often associated with a limited range of roles, overlooking the diversity of professions that make the movement of goods possible. Beyond operational tasks, there are career opportunities in planning, transport coordination, operations management and logistics monitoring.
We also discussed the profiles companies are currently looking for and the different ways to enter the sector, both for those starting their professional careers and for those considering a career change.
In this regard, entering the sector does not necessarily depend on having previous experience in logistics. Training is an important way to acquire specific knowledge, but it is equally important to recognise the skills developed in other professional environments that can be transferred to this field. Organisational skills, problem-solving, communication with different stakeholders and teamwork can all provide a valuable starting point for building a career in the sector.
We also explored how companies’ needs are evolving. The adoption of new digital tools and the growing need for greater efficiency are changing certain roles and making continuous professional development increasingly important. This presents a shared challenge for companies and training centres: preparing people not only for current jobs, but also for the changes ahead.
At Cluster Catalonia Logistics, we particularly value these opportunities to bring together different stakeholders, as they allow us to connect business realities with people who are shaping their professional futures. Strengthening the links between companies, training and talent is essential to addressing recruitment needs and helping more people discover the career development opportunities available in the transport and logistics sector.
